Sixers Lead the Way at Our Charity Fair
The older Cubs from 1st Petersfield stepped confidently into leadership this term as they took charge of organising and running a Charity Fair for the Pack. As part of developing their Skills for Life, the Sixers planned the event themselves, from deciding on stall ideas to creating posters, gathering materials and managing the activities on the night.
Each Six chose a stall to run and came up with additional fundraising ideas that leaders could support. They worked brilliantly as a team, preparing a list of everything they needed and coordinating who would bring what. Families and friends were invited to join us, with every activity costing just 10p a go.
Their hard work paid off: together, they raised an amazing £73.50 for Children in Need.
Stalls included:
- A human fruit machine
- Ping pong balls into jars
- Pin the tail on the donkey
- A treasure map challenge
- Dizzy goal scoring
Leader‑run activities added even more fun, with the cake stall and book raffle proving especially popular. The evening was a fantastic example of what young people can achieve when they take the lead.
Collecting Stamps for the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance
Although stamped letters aren’t as common as they once were, Christmas remains the perfect time to collect used postage stamps — and our Cubs rose to the challenge.
In November, the whole Pack began saving stamps from envelopes and encouraged friends and family to do the same. We were delighted that the Beavers and Scouts of 1st Petersfield joined us, along with the local Guide company, who made a particularly impressive contribution.
In the new year, the Cubs took part in an International‑themed Pack meeting where they sorted all the stamps into UK, European and Worldwide categories. Using maps, they identified where the stamps had come from and discussed the events, symbols and history shown in the designs.
In total, we collected over 2kg of stamps for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, helping them raise vital funds for their lifesaving work.
Stamp highlights included:
- Most common European country: Republic of Ireland (followed by Spain and France)
- Farthest travelled: New Zealand
This activity not only supported a fantastic cause, but also helped Cubs explore global cultures and develop teamwork skills.
