We’re pleased to let you know about an upcoming change to the First Response e‑learning.
During the week commencing 9 March, the First Response e‑learning currently hosted by Hampshire Scouts will be moving to My Learning. This update will make it easier for volunteers, trainers, and teams to access and track learning in one central place.
What’s changing?
The e‑learning has been refreshed to match the look and feel of the current Growing Roots e‑learning modules. While the style has been updated, the structure and content remain largely the same and continue to align fully with the First Response syllabus.
Importantly, no other changes are being made to how First Response is delivered.
How the e‑learning will be used
The First Response e‑learning will continue to be used:
- ✅ By volunteers before attending the 3‑hour trainer‑led session as part of the blended delivery model
- ✅ To support the conversion of some external first aid courses for use in Scouts
Accessing the course on My Learning
Once the e‑learning goes live, volunteers will be able to:
- Visit the Explore Learning section of My Learning
- Enrol themselves on the First Response e‑learning
- Complete the course online
At that point, Hampshire Scouts will turn off their version of the course. Anyone starting the e‑learning for the first time will need to do so via My Learning.
What if I’ve already started or completed it?
- If you’ve already started the e‑learning with Hampshire Scouts, you can:
- Continue and complete it there, or
- Start again on My Learning
- If you’ve previously completed it with Hampshire Scouts, you’ll still be able to log in there and access your completion certificate
The conversion courses currently hosted by Hampshire Scouts will also be removed. Going forward, we’ll use:
- The full First Response e‑learning, and
- A smaller, conversion‑specific e‑learning course
FAQs and further information
To help support this change, we’ve created a set of FAQs, available on the First Response e‑learning course page on My Learning.
Please note: the course page is currently view‑only and won’t be available to complete until launch.
Young Leaders
Young Leaders will continue to be able to access this via Hampshire Scouts. Hampshire will change the name to be clear that the course is for Young Leaders only.
Key information for Volunteering Development Teams
Moving the e‑learning to My Learning does not change the role of Volunteering Development Teams in supporting First Response delivery.
Volunteers using the blended delivery model will receive clear guidance before and after completing the e‑learning, explaining:
- What they need to do next
- The remainder fo the course can be booked on the Country booking system https://bookwhen.com/hampshirescouts
This information will be available on My Learning and on the scouts.org.uk First Response webpages.
The skills report on My Learning will show completion of the e‑learning for anyone with permission to view it.
Key information for Trainers
From a trainer’s perspective, nothing changes.
- Volunteers must still show confirmation that they’ve completed the e‑learning before attending the trainer‑led session.
- They’ll receive a downloadable confirmation at the end of the e‑learning, which can be accessed at any time via My Learning.
- Alternatively, completion will appear as a separate skill in the Wood Badge and skills tab on My Learning, which volunteers can show as evidence.
Key information for Learning Assessors
Although completion of the e‑learning is now recorded on My Learning, the crediting of the First Response skill remains unchanged.
Learning Assessors should continue to:
- Credit First Response only once all parts are complete, including the remaining theory and practical sessions.
You can now view completion of the e‑learning in a volunteer’s record in the same way as any other skill.
If you have any questions, please check the FAQs on My Learning or get in touch — we’re here to help make this transition as smooth as possible.
