Excitement is in the air as the UK Scouts are set to open a brand-new district right here in East Hampshire! The eagerly awaited launch event, scheduled for 5th March 2025, marks the beginning of an extraordinary chapter for the young adventurers in our community.
Discover the New District: The new Scout district, officially named Oakhanger and District, will serve as a hub for youth aged 4-25. The district promises a range of exciting activities designed to foster essential skills, build character, and create lifelong memories. With a dedicated team of experienced leaders and enthusiastic volunteers, Oakhanger and District aims to become a beacon of adventure and personal growth.
Exciting Opportunities Await:
- Outdoor Adventures: From exhilarating hiking trips to challenging camping expeditions, our members will explore the great outdoors, learning survival skills and environmental stewardship.
- Community Service: Scouts will engage in meaningful community service projects, making a positive impact on Alton, Petersfield surrounding villages and beyond. Volunteering opportunities will include litter picks, tree planting, and assisting local charities.
- Skills Development: Our diverse program offerings will help Squirrels to Network units acquire valuable life skills such as first aid, navigation, cooking, and teamwork. Workshops and badges in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) will also be available.
- International Experiences: Oakhanger and District will provide opportunities for cultural exchange programs, enabling Scouts and above to connect with their peers from around the world. These experiences will broaden horizons and foster global citizenship.
- Adventure Challenges: The district will host thrilling adventure challenges, including rock climbing, canoeing, and orienteering. These activities will push the Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers and Network members to their limits and help them discover their true potential.
- Volunteer Engagement: Oakhanger and District Scouts recognise the adult volunteers running the show. With regular Leader training and social events we form a small community of adults who have fun whilst providing worthwhile activities for the youth members.
How to Get Involved: If you’re interested in joining the new Scout district or volunteering your time, please visit our official website at Oakhangerscouts.org.uk for more information. Together, we can create a vibrant and supportive community that empowers our youth to thrive.
